A Book, a Jug of Wine and Thou
Everyone's welcome to our book club. We meet at the book grocer
Northcote on the first Wednesday of every month (check the
sidebar for next meeting time).
If
you would like to be part of our book club simply pick up a copy of
this month's book from the Northcote or Brunswick stores and send Jen an email.
We
welcome new members, those who read voraciously and those who would
like a reason to read regularly. We'll be selecting the novel for
the following month at each meeting from a shortlist.
This Month's Book (Mtg 24 March 7.30pm)
Restless by William Boyd (HB$15, PB$10)
Sally
Gilmartin can’t escape her past. Living in the idyllic English
countryside in 1976, Sally is haunted by her experiences during the
Second World War. She also suspects someone is trying to kill her. With
mounting fear, Sally confides with her daughter Ruth; a woman
struggling with her own past. Sally drops a bombshell. She is actually
Eva Delectorskaya, a Russian émigré recruited as a spy by the British
prior to the Second World War. For the past thirty years, Eva has led a
second life hiding from the ghosts of her past. Through Eva’s life,
William Boyd asks the intriguing question — How well do we truly know
someone? From the Hardcover edition.
