This extraordinary picture book centers on a mother and child's trip to the beach and all the things they do together: swim, dance, build a sand castle and most importantly, communicate. But this communication is not spoken; it's created by loving hands using sign language. The story makes use of American Sign Language in each stanza with a mix of beautifully illustrated beach scenes with sidebars of sign language instructions. This tender book will appeal not only to the Deaf community, but also to the parents of hearing children who will learn to sign some basic words via the text and illustrations.
